The Detroit Dark Red beet is deservedly the most popular all-purpose variety, with its uniform, smooth, blood-red roots that are sweet and flavorful. This vigorous heirloom, introduced by D.M. Ferry in 1892, has remained a grower favorite for over a century. The 14-inch tops also make excellent greens, especially when harvested young.
